Update on "The
Watch"
From 23rd March 2009 we have
been hosting daily two hourly prayer watches from
our Prayer Room. Each Watch is led by the
Holy Spirit, we Wait, we Watch, we Worship .. The
presence of the Lord is increasing and we are
being transformed in His presence.
Daily we are filling our lamps with oil as
we Wait and Watch for our beloved
Bridegroom. Supernatural things are
happening. Prayers are filling the Bowl and
rising up to the Lord.
The Lord is speaking, the Lord is touching,
The Lord is blessing and we are simply glorifying
Him. We welcome people to join us at
these wonderful times, and we would be delighted
to receive prayer requests by phone, text or
email. Please note the latest Watch
times ... Monday - Thursday 19.00 -
21.00 Friday - 15.00 - 17.00 Saturday &

Greetings!
We are now four
months past the end of the Hope 08 year of
initiatives and all through that year we hoped
that there would be enduring projects that came
out of our considerable working together.
I am very gald to say that the idea of
having Street Pastors working on the Island has
been welcomed right across the denominational
spread and after an awful lot of work by David
Ouston our Island Street Pastors Co-ordinator, we
are now approaching the launch and commissioning
of 22 church volunteers onto the streets of the
Island. Well done David!
Do please
pray for the team and come along to join us on the
22nd May to encourage them as they step out into
what is a very exciting opportunity for the whole
Island Church to out there in the community with
love and support for the young people of our
Island.
Sincerely,
Rob

Volunteering with St
Mary's Chaplaincy
Team
If you would like to 'wash the
disciples' feet' in a slightly different way, I
wonder if you have ever considered becoming a
volunteer with St. Mary's Hospital Chaplaincy
Team? We are at present looking for helpers to
join us taking patients to and from the Chapel
Service on a Sunday morning. Your commitment would
be to undertake this duty once every four weeks.
It would involve you arriving at the chaplaincy
office by 10am and leaving by 11.45am. Patients
who wish to attend the chapel service rely on our
chaplaincy volunteers to make this possible. Being
able to attend means so much to them.

Calling all Cake

IOW Rock Festival 12-14th June 2009
The Solace Tent will once again be
appearing at this years IOW Rock Festival in
June
Hosted by Christians from a number of
Island churches, Solace is a completely
free chill out tent located within the
main arena of the festival. It provides a
chance for people to take a break and have a free
cup of tea and a slice of cake. Other
activities on offer include prayer &
healing, feet washing, henna painting and our own
open mic stage.
The vision behind Solace is to show
festival goers an expression of
God's unconditional Love and Grace for us
all. This is a gift from the churches
on the Island. Over the 5 years we have been
running it the response has been incredible
and we are seeing God at work more and
more each time we do it.
We are appealing for some help in all this
as we need an army of intercessors and cake
bakers behind us!
1. Pray - Please pray for the success of
Solace. For the team to serve well and for the
people who come to discover the reality of
Jesus' love and healing power.
2. Bake some Cakes! - We
need as many cakes as possible. (see attached
PDF for details of drop off points)
We very much value your support - Thanks
again for helping make it all
possible

Vectis
Brass - Isle of
Wight
As the Islands premier brass band we would
really appreciate the opportunity to come and
showcase for you our musical skills.
Vectis Brass is made up of a Youth band whose
players are enthusiastic, energetic, and we think,
players with bags of talent. Our Senior band
allows many of our youth players to accompany the
older band members, who are young at heart but
have experience, which they generously give to the
youngsters. We regularly give
concerts throughout the summer at Rylstone
Gardens, as well as performances at Medina
Theatre. We would welcome the opportunity to
express our musical ability in the excellent
acoustic setting of your church, thereby bringing
our music to a much wider audience in our
community
We are happy to perform free but
would suggest however a retiring collection to be
divided equally between the church and Vectis
Brass.
We are lead by a fine musical
director Mary Teague a very well respected
personality among the music community on the
island. Should you be inspired to
want to know more please contact Mary

A Pilgrimage
to Israel - Spring 2010
Imagine that you were a part of this group
- in just 2 days you could be visiting the
following places in Israel, in the spring of next
year, in an air conditioned coach, with a fully
trained government guide:
Day 2 After breakfast, we drive
to the Mount of Olives where we have a panoramic
view of the Old City. We visit the Dome of the
Ascension, the Churches of Pater Noster and
Dominus Flevit, the Church of All Nations, the
Tomb of Mary and the Garden of Gethsemane. We then
drive to Mount Zion where we visit the Church of
St Peter in Gallicantu (the High Priest's house),
the Dormition Abbey, the Upper Room and Tomb of
King David. We enter the Old City through Zion
Gate and visit the Cardo in the Jewish Quarter.
Dinner and overnight Jerusalem.
Day 3 After breakfast, we travel
to Bethlehem and visit Manger Square and the
Church of the Nativity with the Caves of St
Jerome. We end with a visit to the Shepherds'
Fields. Returning towards Jerusalem we visit Ein
Kerem (home of St John the Baptist), the Model of
Jerusalem and Yad Vashem, the memorial to the
Holocaust. Dinner and overnight in
Jerusalem.
And then there's another 7
exciting days of touring, as well!
Baptisms can be arranged at the Jordan Baptismal
site if sufficient notice is given.
This 11 day pilgrimage will make
the Bible come alive in your hands - never again
will you need to wonder what it is like in Israel,
what the language sounds like, the food tastes
like, the sun feels like and how odd it feels to
be floating in the dead sea or praying in the
Garden of Gethsemane or at the tomb!
The final cost depends on how
many people wish to come on the trip; the air
conditioned coaches normally take 48 people so, if
there are only 12 the cost of hiring the coach
increases considerably; the optimum, economic
group size will be between 20 and 30
people.
Can you afford NOT to be
there? Contact me to register an interest so
that I can arrange for the transport, hotel and
tour details for you. Pass a copy to a friend and
encourage them to come, too; the more we have the
cheaper per person it gets!

The
BigChurchDayOut
6,000 already have got tickets across the
country.
Islander combined travel and event
tickets at £27 on sale at
Castlebooks.
The BigChurchDayOut is an exciting new one
day event focussed on gathering the church from
London and the South of
England. The BigChurchDayOut is run by a team that
is headed up by Tim Jupp, one of the founding
members of Delirious, and is supported by both
many local churches and national organizations
that together have a heart for serving the
church.
So the TheBigChurchDayOut will be something special. Sure
it will be a great festival alternative; with one
of the last ever UK appearances from Delirious as
well as Michael W Smith, Israel Houghton and New
Breed, Graham Kendrick, YFriday, Lou Fellingham,
Cathy Burton, and The Kings Chamber Orchestra with
many more still to be added. And the location -
the beautiful country home of Wiston House in West
Sussex - the perfect backdrop for a perfect family
day out.
Kevin
Farrow of the Wight Church
Action Team is organising transport and
tickets. All the original coach tickets
are now gone but Kevin is exploring a second coach
or minibus. Tickets are now £27 each (travel and

Castlebooks.
First Coach pickup times will now
be Lake - Spithead

Help
needed with Church extension in
Uganda
"Ryde URC and Shanklin URC are
very involved in a small Christian charity called
the Romans One Eleven Trust, whose purpose is well
summed up by looking at the Scripture reference
Romans 1:11-12. The charity is particularly
involved with the RPCU, the Reformed Presbyterian
Church of Uganda, especially in helping to train
its pastors through Spiritual Life Centres which
are being built and equipped there. In addition
there is involvement in local churches in Uganda
and Zambia and a child sponsorship programme in
Uganda. Ugandan or Zambian pastors visit each year
to encourage churches in the
UK. There is a particular need at
present for the church at Jinja, the second city
in the east of the country, which is run by a
Muslim council. The General Secretary of the RPCU,
Rev. Wilberforce Wabulo, ministers there and has
been desperately trying to complete a church
extension needed because of the great growth in
his fellowship, which is a very vibrant church.
The Muslim council has threatened repeatedly to
close down the church if the building work is not
completed and about a month ago Wilberforce was
arrested briefly because of alleged health and
safety concerns over the unfinished building. He
has sent desperate messages for prayer and
financial support and some of the churches with
which the Romans One Eleven Trust is involved have
been able to respond. As a result of the weakness
of the pound compared with the Ugandan shilling,
however, the buying power in Uganda is much
reduced and Wilberforce still needs probably
£2000, possibly more, to get the council off his
back. During worship on 15th March I
felt challenged to invite Island churches through
the Wightchurches website to share in supporting
this Christian brother and his congregation.
Please pray for them, that the Lord will have the
victory in this battle. If you or your church
could help financially cheques or charity vouchers
should be made payable to Romans One Eleven Trust
and can be directed through me. I'm also happy to
supply any further information that you
need. Chris
Vivian, 35 Ratcliffe
