Love Russia - Charity Returns to the Isle of Wight

A charity that used to be based on the Isle of Wight. We have a large number of supporters still there, so this March we are returning!
Help us to spread this news, and are there other places where we could speak.

We are a Christian charity that partners with Russian Christians to meet needs of communities in Russia. Our work has always  been unique, and today it is even more so.

Helen, my colleague and I, will be on the Isle of Wight from March 7th to 12th, 2024.
We’ll be sharing about Love Russia
at True Vine Church in Newport
on the 10th March during their Sunday morning service at 10:30 am
(26a High Street, Newport, Isle of Wight).
We’d love for others to join us there. And, if you know of anyone else – be it friends, family or church family – who might be keen to have a chat about what it’s like being a Christian in Russia today, let us know. We’d really love to meet more people while we’re there.
We are also up for more small scale meet ups – perhaps you want to meet Helen and I for a coffee, maybe you’re part of a home group or another church group and would like a visit from us during our time on the Isle of Wight. We’re open to all offers!
Please ring me at the office during our opening hours  +44 (0)115 983 1100 , or send me an email at anna.thwaites@loverussia.org and we can arrange something. Looking forward to meeting you

Kind regards,

Project:Opera

We are delighted to announce the return of the Project:Opera Choir in the debut performance of Lighten the Darkness, a meditative Cantata for Lent, which will take place at Aspire, Ryde, on Saturday 16th March, at 7pm.
The piece is a beautiful work of Christian music composed by our Music Director Steve Parker, to moving English lyrics written by Anthony Swaby, for SATB soloists, choir, piano and viola.
During rehearsals, the choir has been bringing the cantata to life through a spiritually intense blend of voices which blooms into the most angelical harmonies that beautifully complement the Taize' quality of some of the music.
We look forward to the return of  Mezzo-Soprano Clarice Williams, Tenor Jon Grave, and Bass-Baritone Robert John Edwards, who will join Soprano Annalisa Vaughan as the team of professional soloists to lead the Project:Opera Choir.
This one off performance is not to be missed!
Tickets are now available on HERE
50% of proceeds will go in support of Aspire, supporting the community of the Isle of Wight.

“All this beauty is of God.”

(Isle of Wight motto)

Creation Matters! is a network of individuals, from churches across the Isle of Wight, that seeks to encourage and inspire creation care on and around the Island. We seek to bring hope and practical good news to the places where we live through innovative community engagement.

Creation Matters! was formed in 2022 and has attracted Christians from churches across the Isle of Wight. The aim is to encourage and inspire creation care through developing an understanding of the Christian response to climate change and improving biodiversity. Anybody can join the network on the understanding that it is distinctly a Christian initiative.

We gather, discuss and disseminate practical information and advice and bring prayerful hope to this beautiful Island through community engagement within and beyond the Christian church.

We have been supported and inspired in our development by Christian organisations such as A Rocha UK, Tearfund and Hope for the Future.

Our plans include:
• Presenting our thoughts to the parliamentary candidates this year in the hope that
creation care is a high priority for the next Government.
• Celebrating relevant initiatives across the Island.
• Supporting churches to work towards an Eco Church award.
• Empowering Christians to raise creation care issues in all aspects of their worship
and church life.
• Developing a Creation Matters! website for awareness raising, support, and the
sharing of information and resources.

All Saints Ryde and a new Church Plant

A team from East Wight have been praying into a HTB church plant for several years and now God is resourcing a new and exciting church plant into Ryde.

Led by Heath Monaghan, attracting other vicars from HTB Kensington and even people from other nations wanting to come and join in with what could be an exciting new church that will work alongside the existing services at Ryde All Saints. They are undertaking  Refurbishment of the All Saints site this Summer whilst building a team to deliver great children’s & youth work with services that will be aimed at all age groups.

For any further information please contact: Heath at vicar@rydeallsaints.org.uk - Heath & the team are so looking forward to working with other churches and ministers to see kingdom growth - reaching out to those who don't yet know Jesus.

Could you visit a prisoner?

For many varied and complex reasons some prisoners at HMP Isle of Wight do not receive any visitors.
Sometimes this is because it is too far to come. Prisoners do not choose which prison they go to and sometimes they are very far from home and family. For some would be visitors it is not possible to come because of mobility problems, ill health, child care needs or the cost and time it takes to get here is too prohibitive.
For the purpose of rehabilitation it is important that prisoners are able to keep contact with the outside world and to have a feeling of worthiness and that they will be accepted when they leave prison. This all helps with their mental health whilst inside and their ability to engage with courses that help them to address their offending behaviour and hopefully reduce their chances of re-offending.
Official Prison Visitors are volunteers who give up a couple of hours a month to come and visit a prisoner who would not otherwise have a visitor. Someone they can talk to about things not necessarily connected to prison, like what is going on in the world, interests that are shared, hobbies, to name but a few. Visits take place in the Visits Hall along with other visits that are happening.
Official Prison Visitors (OPV)have training and receive on-going support. There is also the opportunity to talk to other Official Prison Visitors and support each other.
Prisoners here who already have an OPV find it a great help and look forward to their visits. The OPVs themselves find it very rewarding.
If you feel this is something you might be able to do please contact me, Rev Judith Swaine, in the first instance, without any obligation. Ring me on 01983 635414 or e-mail me on
Judith.Swaine@justice.gov.uk and I can answer any questions you may have.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Cambodia

My name is Lucy Nicholas and I am a volunteer champion for home for good. A few years ago before the pandemic hit, we were part of a group that helped to launch the charity on the Isle of Wight. But with everything closing down, we were at a loss about what we could do. Now that everything is opening up again, a few of us were approached by Adopt South to find out if there were any island churches who would like to engage with them.

My request is therefore two fold.

1) to see if anyone would like to join our Facebook group (link below), so that we could arrange an information event which Adopt South can join. If you are not on social media, please email me in lucynich14@gmail.com and let me know your interest.

2) To find out if there are any other Christian adoptive parents / foster carers on the island who would like to have a regular meet up where we can provide prayer or peer support for each other. Most probably this could happen quarterly so that it won't be too much of a commitment for anyone.

If anyone can circulate this amongst their church families, I would be ever so grateful. Thanks very much for reading, love and prayers to you all.
